In The Badlands

V1:
Five hours behind schedule, runnin’ late with miles to go
Dream-Catcher swingin’ from the rear-view,gas and oil were mighty low
The truck broke down in Fairmont, got it fixed and we pressed on
Haul-in’ Harleys up to Sturgis through the Badlands

V2:
The way stretched west before us into the blinding rays
We were glad when clouds spread out below the sun with welcomed shade
At last our eyes could rest; but then approaching Belvedere
A storm boiled up – the black rolled in – the blue sky disappeared

Chorus:
We were searchin’ for shelter and gasoline
not a soul was around in that sad deserted scene
The weather up ahead looked real bad like the radio said
We gathered up our courage in the Badlands

V3:
Bracing for the deluge, rain and hail like driving nails
the U-Haul trailer swayed; Derecho winds began to wail
Ridges, Buttes and Canyons, Shadows dark and all around
Summer lightning split the blackness in the Badlands We were

Chorus:
We were searchin’ for shelter and gasoline
not a soul was around in that sad deserted scene
The weather up ahead was just as bad as the radio said We prayed that day for Courage in the Badlands

Bridge:
Dear God, Dear God, Please hear us when we pray Please don’t let the storm tonight blow us clean away Dear Lord, We need you here tonight
Please keep this truck upright

V4:
By the time the storm had lifted it was drizzling just a bit
The wind was still as strong but the city lights were lit
The thunder rumbled off in the distance down the Road
Movin’ south toward Pine Ridge in the Badlands
We watched the stars come out in the Badlands
We thanked God we were Safe in the Badlands
